Every summer usually means the start of vacation plans for a lot of people, but for the volunteers and staff at the United Way for South Louisiana it’s time to kick off our annual fund raising campaign. The money raised funds the twenty six member agencies in the parishes of Assumption, Lafourche, St. Mary, and Terrebonne that work tirelessly to improve the lives of those in need in our community.

This process begins with the selection of our Campaign Chairman and his Campaign Cabinet Committee. This year Mike Fakier of Southland Steel will work closely with United Way Campaign Manager Lonnie Easley, and Campaign Associate Ashlee Champagne to recruit volunteers, educate the public as to how United Works and how their donations are utilized, and to conduct campaigns in the four parishes we serve.

Mike’s Campaign Cabinet Committee members are responsible for recruitment of volunteers in each of their respective divisions, and these volunteers call upon companies requesting corporate donations and employee campaigns that are vitally important to the member agencies that depend on the funding United Way raises each year. One example of how your generosity is at work in our community is the meals on wheels program that so many senior citizens rely on since, in some cases it’s the one nutritious meal they can count on.

Loaned Executives are also a core element in United Way’s fund raising initiatives, and they along with our numerous volunteers are the reason United Way is able to run so effectively and efficiently. Loaned Executives are individuals who are “loaned” from companies in the area to work for United Way for fourteen weeks. Their duties consist of learning about United Way funding and how it is distributed to our member agencies, going into the community and leading the general employee campaigns, and sharing stories of how United Way has helped our neighbors. If you’re interested in becoming a future Loaned Executive, please contact Lonnie Easley for more information.

United Way for South Louisiana would like to encourage any company not currently participating to call our office, (985)879-2461 and set up a campaign. Through United Way your employees will not only have the opportunity to help those less fortunate, but they will be educated as to what human/healthcare agencies and services are available in our community.

In a short meeting you and your employees can make the difference in so many lives, and through our campaign you have the ability to designate your gift to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing human/healthcare services regardless if they are a United Way member agency or not.

It is the support of the community and companies like yours that keep us in the business of “neighbors helping neighbors.” If you or your company would like more information on how to become involved please call our office, or email Lonnie Easley or Ashlee Champagne.
